Potential application of pre-harvest LED interlighting to improve tomato quality and storability

Growing conditions and agronomical inputs play a key role in determining fruit qualitative nutraceutical traits at harvest post-harvest. The hereby presented research investigated the effects of pre-harvest supplemental LED interlighting on post-harvest quality hydroponically grown tomatoes ( Solanum lycopersicum “Siranzo”). Three treatments, applied for 16 h d -1 (h 8.00–00.00), were added to natural sunlight consisted Red Blue (RB), + Far-Red (FR), end-of-day 30 min (EOD), with an intensity 180 µmol m -2 s Blue, plus 44 Far-Red. A control treatment (CK), where plants only sunlight, was also considered. Fruits red stage selected placed storage room 13 °C darkness. Fruit assessment performed time after one week storage. RB FR increased firmness compared CK, opening possible benefits toward reducing losses during handling. treated fruits maintained higher content lycopene ?-carotene first study demonstrates that supplementary greenhouse tomato cultivation may enhance storability help preserve nutritional properties • Pre-harvest treatments can affect tomato.
